Location of Bondi Beach
Bondi Beach is located in Sydney, NSW, 7 km (4 miles) east from the hype of Sydney CBD. The general location of this magnificent beach is Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Some of the neighboring suburbs are North Bondi, South Bondi and Bondi Junction. Weather at Bondi Beach
Due to the location of Bondi Beach, the weather there follows the same seasonal pattern as the rest of the state - Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring then repeat. During the Summer months (December, January, February) the weather at Bondi Beach ranges from 30-26 degrees Celsius (86-79 degrees Fahrenheit). This is the best time of year to visit Bondi Beach. During the winter months, the weather can drop to around 8-16 degrees Celsius (46-61 degrees Fahrenheit). It is recommended that you don't visit Bondi Beach during these months if you wish to have a relaxing beach holiday as strong southerly and northerly winds can blow through, whipping up sand and causing dangerous waves and currents. Not to mention that water temperature can get to around to a chilly 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit). On average, rainfall at Bondi Beach is at its highest point during the months of March and June. Rainfall is at it's lowest during the months of September through to December. |
Unique Flora and Fauna
Due to the location of Bondi Beach not many animals can be found ashore, however the waters of Bondi Beach are home to many different species of marine life. Seaweed is also found in the water and amongst the rocks, providing shelter for small marine animals such as crabs and small fish.
Weedy Seadragon
The Weedy Seadragon is a marine fish, usually of reddish colour, with purple and yellow markings. It can reach up to 45cm in length. The Weedy Seadragon can be found in coastal waters up to 50m deep and lives amongst rocky reefs, seaweed beds and seagrass meadows. They drift amongst the water, allowing the current to pull them along and their colour to camouflage and hide from predators.
Wobbegong
The Wobbegong is the common name used to specify 12 species of carpet sharks. These sharks spend most of their time laying on the sea floor in shallow temperate and tropical waters. They can grow to about 1.25m however the longest Wobbegong recorded was the 3 meters in length. They camouflage well with the sea floor, obviously referring to their name (carpet shark), making them relatively invisible which allows them to hide amongst rocks and to catch smaller fish that swim too close. This makes them an ambush predator. Wobbegongs aren't dangerous to humans unless they are provoked by being accidentally stepped on, poked or touched by swimmers, scuba divers or surfers.
Port Jackson Sharks
Port Jackson sharks have been seen in the waters of Bondi Beach before and is a type of bullhead shark. It can grow up to 1.67 meters long and has prominent forehead ridges and dark brown markings on their light grey body. This shark is nocturnal, so they're often seen lying around on the sea floor, undisturbed unless threatened. These sharks are not dangerous towards humans.
